Unmasking Me: Living Through My Values
When I began unmasking—first through diagnosis, then through reflection—I didn’t just uncover traits. I uncovered truths.
For years, I’d shaped myself around what others needed, expected, or accepted. I was adaptable, intuitive, and deeply attuned to the emotional undercurrents in any room. But beneath that flexibility was a quiet ache—a sense that I was drifting from something essential. I could perform connection, competence, even confidence. But was I truly living as me?
Unmasking invited a different question: What do I stand for when I’m not performing?
Rediscovering My Values
As I peeled back the layers of masking, I began to reconnect with the values that had always been there—quietly guiding me, even when I couldn’t name them.
Family reminded me where I feel most grounded, most loved, most real.
Kindness helped me soften the harsh self-talk I’d internalised for years.
Authenticity gave me permission to show up as I am, not as I’m expected to be.
Commitment anchored me in purpose, even when the path felt uncertain.
Curiosity opened doors to self-understanding and new ways of thinking.
Trust allowed me to rebuild safety within myself and with others.
Accountability helped me own my story—without shame, without apology.
Courage carried me through the discomfort of change and the beauty of growth.
These values became my compass. Not just in theory, but in practice.
Values in Action
Living through my values means making choices that honour my wiring, my needs, and my truth.
In coaching, it means holding space with compassion and nuance. It means asking not just what my clients want to do, but why—and whether it aligns with who they are. It means creating environments where neurodivergent women feel seen, heard, and supported to grow on their own terms.
In my creative work, it means designing with emotional resonance. Trusting my nonlinear process. Letting go of perfectionism in favour of alignment.
I don’t always get it right. Living through my values isn’t always easy—especially in a world that often rewards conformity over clarity. But it’s something I hold dear. It’s a practice I return to, again and again, with intention and care.
